FUNDRAISING & MARKETING

$$ - Currently $4260 towards goal of $7800 from 75 donors

 

Fred at Recycle shop on Main has agreed to have fundraising thermometer/ graphic in store window so the community can see how much more is needed

 

Flyers with QR code (code goes to donation page) - almost ready to go

Includes Repair Cafe, Rotary, and IOOF logos

Can hang flyers at local businesses

Flyers are to advertise the raising of funds for the crusher

Deadline for final draft December 20th

Jack will send to Environmental Sustainability group for feedback.

Each bucket = 60 wine bottles

~11 sec per bottle to crush at Manson, but that machine might be older

LOCATION & PROCESSING

Raven – idea for getting machine closer to where pile will be. Empty bucket into wheelbarrow then wheelbarrow to pile (40 sec walk). Bucket when full will weigh about 85lbs

 

Possible processing hours:

Weekdays & Saturday (six hours a day)

Raven is there 9am-2:30 M-F

So, could start with one crushing day per week with three shifts, 2 people per shift for a total of six crushers

Could set up a donation box

 

Processing details

Plastic covers, like on new Fireball bottles, plastic and metal rings around neck need to be removed. Box cutter will be needed onsite.

 

Insurance

Estimate given to Suzanne of $500 per year

Insurance company will require

PPE – eye protection, gloves

Training for all crushers

 

Collecting glass

Discussion of limitations on amount of glass that can be crushed and who can give glass. Not able to crush everyone’s glass quickly, but though is not to limit things. Can set expectations that things could take a while, maybe even months to get to everyone on the list. To keep up with demand, we could add ambassadors or be there for more hours. Stage 2, after we get the hang of things, could be “open” days when we accept glass drop-offs.

SUZANNE’S MEETING WITH COMMISSIONERS

Goal: create a focus committee to find uses for glass product and other recycling. Promote idea that we can be on the cutting edge of environmental sustainability. STEM standards that include hands-on projects.

Coordinate Universities with private sector with government as an incubator to create plan. LEED certified city - leader in energy and environmental design. Solid Waste Advisory Board. Suzanne applied to be on board as community representative, hasn’t heard back.
